Hauling Permits

The City of Suffolk has established a new program for issuing Special Permits for oversize and overweight vehicles that travel on the roadways maintained by the City of Suffolk.

The Department of Motor Vehicles ceased to issue these permits for travel on the City of Suffolk roads on December 31, 2009. The DMV and VDOT have worked closely with the City in the past few months in order to get the program in place. The City of Suffolk Permits Office began the task of issuing these permits January 1, 2010.

Permit applications can be obtained by calling (757) 514-7607 for a faxed copy of the application or an application can be downloaded below. Applicants should complete and sign the application. The application may be faxed to (757) 514-7655, mailed or delivered to the Permits Office at 866 Carolina Road, Suffolk, Virginia 23434 or emailed to sgriffin@suffolkva.us. Applications will be reviewed by the Permits Office to determine if an Engineering Study is required for the requested route of travel.
